RALPH WATSON ELKS SR.

June 1, 1924 – Oct. 22, 2014

 

Mr. Ralph Watson Elks, age 90, a resident of 756 Elks Road, Chocowinity, died Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his home.

Graveside services with military honors will be held 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, conducted by Pastor Henry Horne.

Mr. Elks’ grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Stephen Elks, James Elks, Vann Elks, Timothy Elks, Darrell Ange and Jason Sheppard.

Mr. Elks was born in Beaufort County on June 1, 1924.  He was the son of the late James Stanley Elks and Ollie Elks.   Mr. Elks was a retired farmer and carpenter.  He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church where he taught Sunday school and delivered the message of God to the incarcerated.

Mr. Elks was a loving, devoted son, father, husband and friend.  He took pride in his farming and carpentry work.

On May 11, 1947, Mr. Elks married “the love of his life”, the former Vivian Buck, who preceded him in death, May 17, 2014.

Mr. Elks is survived by his children, Ralph “Watson” Elks, Jr. and wife, Gloria, Diana E. Watson and husband, Lawrence, Darrell Van Elks and wife, Janet all of Chocowinity; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Elks was preceded in death by six brothers, Dalton Elks, Fate Elks, Robert Elks, Ervin Elks, Medford Elks and Hubert Elks; and six sisters, Florence Hudson, Idell Andersen, Altie Mayo, Nellie Hudson, Roxie Ball and Mavis Woolard.

The family will receive friends 11:00-11:45 AM prior to the service on Saturday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home of his daughter and son in law, Diana and Lawrence Watson, 966 Elks Road, Chocowinity.
