Yvonne was born in Beaufort County on October 15, 1926 daughter of the late Edward Sheppard and the late Annie Cutler Sheppard Cox.  She attended school in Bath, NC and married Ernest Clayborne, Jr. on August 23, 1941.  Yvonne worked at Rochelle School in Kinston until her retirement.  Yvonne loved her home and working in her yard growing flowers, feeding stray cats and reading her enormous collection of all types of books.  Her favorite book was the Word of God, her Bible.  Yvonne taught Sunday School for many years and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Even at the age of 88 she was still young at heart.  For the last 35 years she lived in the Fountain Hill area of Grifton around Hugo.  She was a member of Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory along with her husband Ernest of the home are her children: Linda Clayborne Ramsey Hamilton (Franz), Gayle Allen (Tommy) both of Hookerton, Ernest Steven Clayborne (Jackie) of Kinston and Jonathan (Joan) of Ayden; her grandchildren: Ernest Robert “Robbie” Ramsey of Greenville, Gregory Thomas “Greg” Ramsey of Blounts Creek, Caroleen Pollard Lovick, William Glenn Pollard, Steven Lane Pollard, Christopher Clayborne and Jamie Clayborne all of Kinston, Roseann Andrews and Michael Clayborne of Hookerton, Jeremy Clayborne of Greenville and Jonathan Curtis Clayborne “J.C.” of Ayden; seventeen great grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and a special friend Dale Alligood.

Yvonne was predeceased by a son: Mark Edward Clayborne (Judy) and her brothers: Hubert Edward Sheppard, Leo Jerome Sheppard, Glenwood Marshall Sheppard and Bobby Holmes Sheppard.

A special thank you goes out to Drs. Robin Adams, John Fogarty and Patrick Brillant for the wonderful care given to our Mom and their treatment to our family during the time of her sickness and hospital stay.  A thank you goes out to the great staff of the “C” unit at Vidant Medical Center of Greenville.  Words cannot express our gratitude for the kindness shown to all of us.

Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks for memorial contributions to be made to J & J’s Homeless Pets, P.O. Box 1495, Washington, NC 27889.
