From the Town of Chocowinity

CHOCOWINITY — The Town of Chocowinity’s sewer collection system had a sewer spill on Dec. 2. at 10:25 a.m.

The spill was located on Bragaw Lane in Chocowinity, 700 feet South East of its main pump station. Approximately 1,500 gallons of sewer effluent was discharged into the ditch on the shoulder of Braqaw Lane, which leads to Chocowinity Creek.

The spill was the result of a 2-inch sewer clean-out box being hit by a piece of machinery installing a new sewer line down Bragaw Lane. The repair of the sewer clean-out was done within an hour of the occurrence. The area was cleaned after repairs were made utilizing a vacuum truck, sand and lime.

Resident who would like more information regarding this matter should contact Chocowinity Public Works Director Kevin Brickhouse at 252-946-6558.
