Washington High School is seeking members of the 1978 and 1979 men’s basketball team, including all support members like statisticians, drivers and managers, for a special reception at Washington High School on Dec. 16.
From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., a reception for members of those historic teams will take place at the Washington High School Media Center, prior to the WHS men’s basketball game where NBA legend, and former Pam Pack basketball star, Dominique Wilkins’ jersey will be retired at half time.
Those on the rosters of the 1978 and 1979 men’s basketball team with Wilkins are encouraged to attend the pre-game reception at the media center before the night’s main event.
“Please help us locate members of these teams. This evening will be a special memory and we do not want anyone to miss it,” Sarah Hodges, Beaufort County Schools’ public information officer, wrote in a press release.
Wilkins will make a return appearance in Washington for a day of festivities. At 4 p.m., the city will host a parade on Stewart Parkway welcoming Wilkins back to town. The parade will not only celebrate Wilkins’ return, but will also honor the Washington Pam Pack football team for its winning season. The parade will end at Festival Park, where fans will have the opportunity to meet the NBA Hall of Famer, whose play inspired nicknames like “The Human Highlight Film.”
All of the proceedings will be filmed as part of an ESPN documentary about Wilkins. Tickets for the basketball game can be purchased at Washington High School.
