WILLIAM “BILLY” WOOLARD SR.

Sept. 27, 1935 – Dec. 15, 2014

 

Mr. William John “Billy” Woolard, Sr., age 79, a resident of 322 Barwick Drive, Washington died Monday evening December 15, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday December 18, 2014  at the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Mike Caton and Marty Alligood.  Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.  Hugh Fonville, Tommy Rutledge, Phillip Dixon, Clarence Whitley, Ray Gurganus and elders and deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on September 27, 1935, son of the late Clyde and Gertrude Sparrow Woolard.    On August 31, 1958, he married the former Margaret Louise Gurganus who survives.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.  Mr. Woolard retired October 1, 1997 from the Beaufort County School System as Director of Transportation with 41+ years service.  He was District President and NC President of NC Peoples Transportation Association.  Mr. Woolard was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ where he served as a former deacon and secretary of the board as long as his health permitted.

In addition to his wife, Margaret, of the home, he is survived by his son: William John “Johnny” Woolard, Jr. and his wife Jackie of Washington; grandson:  Joshua Edward Clark and wife Erica Knight Clark of Washington; great grandchild: Grace Taylor Clark of Washington; his brother: Terry Woolard of Washington and his sisters: Geneva Woolard of Washington, Sharon Ann Askew of Pinetown and Linda Frances Swindell of Augusta, GA.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother: Daniel Windley Woolard.

The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
