Marietta Collins Smith

Mrs. Marietta Collins Smith, age 93, a resident of Lovers Lane, Washington, passed away on the Dec. 25, 2014. Marietta was born in Beaufort County on Oct. 21, 1921, daughter of the late Tom and Mamie Reddick Collins. She was married to Anthony Smith who preceded her in death. Marietta was a homemaker and had also worked in New York. She had also worked for Dr. Dave Tayloe. Marietta was a member of Mother of Mercy Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining and helping those in need.

Marietta is survived by her son, Anthony T. Smith of Halifax; her brother, James Collins; her sisters, Alice C. Williams of Manhattan, N.Y., Martha C. Anderson and Bernice Collins, both of New York, N.Y.; her grandson, Reggie Smith of Washington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Warren Collins; and her sisters, Minnie C. Johnson, Mariah C. Wilder, Lillian C. Harvey, Ethel C. Lanier, and Gladys C. Rozer.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, officiated by Father Brendan Buckler. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm Friday, January 2, 2015 at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 Hwy 264 E., Washington, NC and other times at the home of her sister, Alice Williams, 235 E. Martin Luther King Dr., Washington, NC.
