FURMAN M. HOLLAND

Sept.  21, 1936 – Jan. 6, 2015

 

Furman (Pruny) Merritt Holland, formerly of Belhaven, NC, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, surrounded by his family.  He had been in the care of Azalea Health and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmington, NC, after his health began to decline.

Furman was born in Greeleyville, SC on September 21, 1936, the son of the late James Frank (Red) Holland and Erleen Parrott Holland.  He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Janie (Polly) Holland. Furman is survived by his three children, daughters, Melita Holland of Wilmington, NC, Dee Holland-Brock and her wife Wanda of La Crosse, VA, and son James (Jay) Holland and his wife Brandi of Wilmington, NC and his grandsons, Samuel Merritt Holland, Brent Windley Holland and Lawson Riddick Holland of Wilmington, NC., two sisters, Barbara Holland Scott and Pam T. Philips and her husband Jimmy of Kingstree, SC.

Furman attended Clemson University where he also played football.  He worked for Circle Grove Seed Company, in Belhaven, NC, until his retirement.  Following his retirement, Furman relocated to Wilmington, NC, to be near his family.

In Wilmington, NC, the family received visitors at the home of Jay and Brandi Holland.  The family will receive visitors at First Christian Church, 419 East Main Street, Belhaven, NC, on Friday, January 9, 2015, from 6-8 p.m.  A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at First Christian Church.

The family would like to thank Azalea Health and Rehabilitation Center and all of the health care providers for their kindness and special care given to their “Daddy.”  They would like to also thank their church families at First Christian Church, Belhaven, NC and Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC.

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to either First Christian Church, 419 East Main Street, Belhaven, NC 27810 or Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, 10255 Hwy 17 North, Wilmington, NC 28411.
