Senator Erica Smith Ingram Sworn In

Raleigh, N.C. – On Wednesday, January 14, 2015, Senator Erica Smith-Ingram (SD-003) was sworn into the NC Senate making history as the first female elected senator to represent the counties in this district.

 

Senator Smith-Ingram will represent eight North Carolina counties in the Northeastern part of the State – Bertie, Chowan, Edgecombe, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Tyrrell and Washington.

Before her election to the General Assembly, Senator Smith-Ingram spent 10 years as a successful engineering in private and governmental sectors and more than 9 years serving in the classroom, teaching science and math and dedicating herself to engineering minds.

A graduate of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, where she was the Student Body President, and Howard University, Senator Smith-Ingram is no stranger to public service and hard work.

 

To her seat, she brings her experiences as a former Northampton County School Board Member (6 years), mechanical engineer, member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (public service organization) and as a licensed and ordained clergy member.

Senator Smith-Ingram will use her experiences to continue championing for NC teachers and state employees, equal rights and opportunity, re-engineering infrastructure and economic development through better jobs and bringing business opportunities to her District. Senator Smith-Ingram’s is truly equipped, engineered and empowered to lead District 3.
