Geraldine Delors Brown Windley, 89, a former resident of Savannah Road, Belhaven, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at River Trace Rehabilitation Center of Washington. Geraldine was born on Dec. 29, 1925, in Pantego, to the late Leamon L. Brown and Mary McCloud Brown.  She was educated at Beaufort County Schools and after graduation moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where she received additional training as a seamstress. For the next 30 years she worked in the Garment District of New York until her retirement. She was a member of St.Mary’s Church of God and Christ all of her adult life while living in New York.

In 1973, she married the late McKinley Windley, and after their retirements, Geraldine, McKinley and Brother Leroy returned home to Sidney, North Carolina, in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband McKinley in July 1989 and her Brother Leroy in 1991.

Life in Sidney for Geraldine was far from dull. She continued to work as a seamstress and was known for her creative designs and fashions until her health began to fail her. For the last several years of her life, she resided at the Britthaven Retirement and Rehabilitation Center in Washington, until her death.

Geraldine is survived by her six siblings: Brenda Jones (Arnell), Glenn Dale, Maryland; William Brown (Judy), Folsom, California; Vera Brown, Houston, Texas; Carlisa Brown-McCain (James), Bowie, Maryland; Haywood Brown, Raleigh; and Anthony Brown (Robin), Carrolton, Texas; in addition to a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Holly Grove Disciples of Christ Church, 5373 Sidney Road, Belhaven, NC 27810. Burial will follow the service in the Holly Grove Church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The body will lie in state Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service.
