SHIRLEY ADAMS POTTER

April 20, 1935 – Feb. 6, 2015

 

Mrs. Shirley Adams Potter, age 79, a former resident of Hwy 33 W Chocowinity, NC, died Friday, February 6, 2015 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.  Mrs. Potter was born in Pitt County on April 20, 1935, the daughter of the late Herman Stancil and Ada Hales Adams. In June, 1955 she married Guy Potter, Jr., who preceded her in death in April 1990.  Shirley resided for most of her life in Chocowinity and graduated from Chocowinity High School. She was a retired cook who worked at Hog Heaven for 10 years. She attended Union Chapel FWB Church in Chocowinity.

Shirley is survived by her children Kathy Clark (Eddie),  Diane Mason, and Diantha Potter, all of Chocowinity; her brother Bobby Adams of Chocowinity; her sisters Lottie Ree Beavers and Mary Lee Coward, both of Washington; grandchildren Myriah Mason, Dylan Howard, Michelle Black,  Chastity Baugham, Sandy Jo Potter, and Edward Potter IV; and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Guy Edward Potter III (Aug 2013); a grandson, Matthew Morlock (January 1989); and 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

A celebration of her life will be held at 7 pm Tuesday, February 10 in the chapel at Hillside Funeral Service officiated by Chaplain Letari Thompson. The family will receive friends following the service.
