William Robert Mayo

William Robert Mayo, 84, a resident of Twin Lakes Campground in Chocowinity, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Red Oak Manor, Greenville, NC. Mr. Mayo was born on February 11, 1931 in Somerset, KY to the late William and Pauline Mayo. He enjoyed a long career with Nationwide Insurance Company and was able to retire early and pursue his passion of R.V. travel with his wife, Rose. Mr. Mayo was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.  He served his country in the United States Army, 11th Airborne.

On January 21, 1952, he married the former Rosetta (Rose) Hibbard, who predeceased him in 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Melanie Faith Mayo of Greenville, NC; brothers, Frank Mayo of Jacksonville, FL, Joe Mayo of Cincinnati, OH, Jim Mayo of Fairfield, OH and Ronnie Mayo of Surprise, AZ; sisters, Jenny Wagner of Gulfport, MS, Sharon Thomas of Apopka, FL and Barbara Koeller of Byron, IL. He is also survived by his companion, Linda Adcock of Rocky Mount, NC.

A graveside celebration of his life with military honors will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 101 Craven Street, Bath, NC 27808.  The service will be officiated by Pastor Jessie Crisp.   The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Funeral Service in Washington, NC and will travel to the cemetery in procession.
