Robert “Bobby” D. Guthrie Sr.

May 19, 1946 – March 18, 2015

 

Robert “Bobby” Dean Guthrie, Sr., age 68, a resident of Belhaven died Wednesday March 18, 2015 at his home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be officiated by Rev. Dean Fulford,Jr.

Mr. Guthrie was born in Beaufort County on May 19, 1946 to the late Frederick Tillman Guthrie and Neva Florence Wallace Guthrie. He spent most of his adult life as a commercial fisherman and a tugboat operator. Mr. Guthrie also drove dump trucks and even ran bulldozers. He served as a deacon at his church. He was a well-respected, generous and giving man in the Belhaven community with many friends.

Survivors include his children, Robert Dean Guthrie, Jr. and wife Misty of Havelock, David Vernon Guthrie of Belhaven, Beverly Dawn Guthrie Davis of Winterville; ten grandchildren, Colton and wife Amanda, Danielle, Jonathan, Zachary, Ariel, Kimberly, Aaron, Ryan, David, and Dean; one great grandchild due in April; one brother, Freddie Guthrie and wife Kathy of California; two sisters, Alma Grace Cundiff of Kansas City, MO, Mavis Oliver of Havelock; many nieces and nephews, and his faithful companion Spot.

Mr. Guthrie is preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Guthrie and five sisters, Brenda Strief, Doris Cuthrell, Selma Ree Melvin, Ethel Guthrie, and Elsie Katherine Guthrie.

The family will receive friends following the service at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
