CARY — Todd Torres, a Greenville resident and East Carolina Aquatics masters swimmer, set two national records in breaststroke events at the NC Masters State Championship held March 28-29 at the Triangle Aquatic Center.

Already the national record holder in the 100 breaststroke for ages 45-49, Torres set new U.S. records with times of 26.17 in the 50 breast and 2:08.23 in the 200 breast. He finished first in those events and in the 100 breast with a time of 57.45. Torres, 46, set the national record for the 100 breast (56.83) last year.

Torres also competed in the 200 medley relay in the 35 and up age group. The team placed first and set a new state record with a time of 1:40.34.

Another ECA masters swimmer, Lisa Eagle of Greenville, was the high points winner for women age 50-54. This is the third consecutive year that Eagle has received the most points in her age group.

Eagle took first place in the 1,650 free, the 1,000 free and the 50 back. She placed second in the 500 free, 200 free, 100 free, 100 back, 100 breaststroke and 50 fly. She took third in the 50 breast.

Eagle swam for ECU. Torres was a 14-time All-American and NCAA champion at Louisiana State University and represented Puerto Rico in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics.
