Allison Burton Hayes Jr.

VIRGINIA BEACH — A. B. Hayes, age 90, passed away April 7, 2015 in Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Louise Lively Hayes; and 2 sisters, Ruby Bell and Margaret Jernigan; special friends Lucille Jesaitis and Susan and Bo Williams; many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was born October 3, 1924, on a farm in Aurora, NC. He was one of eight children born to Allison and Lena Mixon Hayes.

He entered the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill at the age of 16.  His education was interrupted by WW II.  A. B. joined the U.S. Navy at eighteen.  Following boot camp and radio school in Bainbridge, Conn, He went to Sub Mariner School in New London, Conn. He served aboard two submarines; the USS Sea Devil and the USS Jallao. At the end of the war, he was in the Sea of Japan aboard the Jallao. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.

After the war, he returned to UNC and graduated with a BS in Commerce in 1950.  He was employed by Royal Silver Mfg Co in Norfolk, VA; then as a cost accountant with U.S. Gypsum. He completed his career in 1984 as a senior field agent with the IRS.

A.B. enjoyed fishing, hunting and raising tomatoes. He traveled extensively throughout the U. S. with his wife and especially enjoyed their Condo overlooking the Chesapeake Bay at Cape Henry Towers, Virginia Beach, VA.

Mrs. Elsie Mae Jones, a resident of Cross Creek Healthcare, Swan Quarter, died Thursday, April 9, 2015. The family is receiving friends at the home, 499 Lynnsburg Road, Scranton. Arrangements will be announced by Phillip Brothers and Anderson Memorial Mortuary, Greenville.
