AGNES S. ETHERIDGE
August 21, 1915 – April 18, 2015
Agnes Elizabeth Spencer Etheridge, 99, of Engelhard and more recently a resident of Cross Creek Health Care Center in Swan Quarter, died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Vidant-Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
Born in Hyde County, August 21, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Sam Davis and Sallie Davis Gibbs Spencer. She was married to Thomas Jefferson Etheridge, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1986. She and her late husband established Etheridge Oil Company in 1934 and it has continued in operation today as Etheridge Oil and Gas.
She was a faithful member of Engelhard Christian Church where she served as Altar Lady, teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class, a member of Christian Women’s Fellowship and in the church choir. She also enjoyed the Happy Hearts Club, the former Home Extension Club. She coordinated Meals on Wheels, the Blood Mobile and served on the Hyde Senior Center Board of Directors. During the war she served in the watch tower for Civil Defense. She was a life member of N. C. PTA.
She enjoyed a long history of service in Order of Eastern Star and was currently a member of Columbia Chapter # 281. She served seven times as Worthy Matron of the former Hyde Chapter 213 and as Grand Representative to New Jersey for two years.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 25th at Engelhard Christian Church. Rev. Scott Sukeforth will officiate. Burial will follow in Fulford Cemetery. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Surviving are a son, Thomas J. Etheridge, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Engelhard; a daughter, Alice Etheridge Poth of Oxford, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Poth, T. J. “Jay” Etheridge, III, Elizabeth
Stewart, Amy Skrien and Randy J. Etheridge; great-grandchildren, Drake Etheridge, Dalton Etheridge, Deacon Etheridge, Justin Poth, Julia Poth, Rebekah Poth, Lauren Stewart, Gabe Stewart, Jacob Skrien, Sam Skrien, Zane Etheridge and Quinn Etheridge.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred S. Cox, Isabelle Berry, Mattie Neal and a brother, Earl Spencer.

The family will receive friends on Friday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.at Bryan Funeral Service in Swan Quarter and other times at the Etheridge Home, 34501 U. S. Highway 264, Engelhard.
