Thomas Jay Mitchell

Sept. 5, 1969 – April 20, 2015

 

Thomas Jay Mitchell, age 45 of Carthage, NC, died Monday, April 20, 2015 at his family home.

He was born at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD on September 5, 1969 to Rev. William K. Mitchell, Jr., and Carolee J. Swalm Mitchell both of the home.  Thomas was a Police Officer for the Town of Chapel Hill for more than 18 years before health issues required him to leave early.  He was a sniper and member of the Chapel Hill Police Department’s Specialized Emergency Response Team.

He Graduated from Washington High School in Little Washington, NC, East Carolina University and the BLET program from Central Carolina Community College.  Thomas was and Eagle Scout receiving the Order of the Arrow and was a member of Center United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents Thomas is survived by two brothers Dr. William K. Mitchell, III and wife Aryn of Plano, TX, Michael David Mitchell and wife Julie of Matthews, NC; three nephews Jacob, Daniel, and Joseph Mitchell; and three nieces Hannah, Ella, and Abigail Mitchell.

The family will receive friends at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.  The funeral will be at Center United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 23, 2015  at 2:00 PM with Rev. Chris Humphreys officiating.   Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
