May 13, 1944 – May 7, 2015

Mrs. Judy Lee Baxter, aged 70, a resident of Washington, died at home in hospice care on Thursday, May 7, 2015, of renal failure after a brave battle with cancer.   Judy was born in Uniontown, Pa., in 1944 and graduated from Uniontown High School.

She married in 1962 and moved to Alexandria, Va., where she raised her children. In 1981, she married Denis N. Baxter. They moved to Washington in 1995. A former food service director for Aramark at the Pentagon, Judy worked as a dietitian for Ridgewood Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until her retirement in 2011.

In addition to her loving husband Denis, Judy is survived by her children: Randy (Kim) Baxter; Valette (Alex) Piper-Bledsoe; Abby Piper Rutledge; Nate Piper; and Greg (Vickie) Baxter. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Ryan and Matthew Baxter; Jacob, Charlie and Amelia Piper-Bledsoe; Amy and David Rutledge; Ellie Piper and Ein Herron; and Nicholas Baxter and Anthony Scaramella; and one great-grandson, Phoenix Warner. She is also survived by her brother, Edward (Judy) Romesburg, of Lemont Furnace, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Rebekah Piper and her parents, Charles Edward and Eleanor Miller Romesburg.

So many people remember Judy for her generous, friendly nature—she never met a person she couldn’t talk to and connect with. Even during her last hospital stay, she had the nurses laughing and sharing stories. She was an amazing wife, the best mother, a wonderful sister and a true friend.

The family will receive friends and family at Hillside Funeral Service from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2015, with the memorial service to be held afterwards at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Danny Allen. A catered reception will be held at the home immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor, Bethesda, MD  20814.
