Lillian Copley Bobbitt

June 1, 1916 – June 18, 2015

 

Mrs. Lillian Copley Bobbitt, 99, of Washington, died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville on Thursday, June 18, 2015.

Mrs. Bobbitt was born in Durham, NC on June 1, 1916 to the late John and Godman Roberts Copley.

She attended school in Durham, NC and was secretary to the Chief of the Engineering Division at the Durham Veterans Medical Center until her retirement in 1980.   She was married to Harold Adams Bobbitt who predeceased her.  In her leisure time, she enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and evangelism.  She was a member of Harvest Church in Washington, NC and was a past member of the Bereavement Committee, the Cooking Ministry and taught Sunday school to all ages.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonna B. Watson (Ed) of Washington, NC and her son, Ronnie Adams Bobbitt (Susan) of Houston, TX; her sister, Edith C. Lambert (David) of Winchester, VA;  three nephews; one niece; three grandchildren:  Lindsay Richardson (Chris), Aaron Watson (Sara) and Derek Watson (Heather); five great-grandchildren: Lauren Howard (David), Nick Richardson, Gavin Watson, Simon Watson and Jillian Watson;  and one great great-grandchild, Lilly Howard.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Delia Copley and her brother Irvin Copley.

A  celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday,  June 21, 2015  at Harvest Church, officiated by Pastor Tad Tankard.  Special music will be provided by Treva Tankard.  A private burial will be held at a later date at the family plot in Maplewood Cemetery, Durham, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Harvest Church.  The family received friends from 2:00 to 5:00 on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the home of Tonna and Ed Watson on Haven Way South in Washington, NC.
