Joseph E. Hofmann, age 89, a resident of Washington, passed away on July 29, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
He was predeceased by his parents, John Hofmann and Grace (Connor) Hofmann; sister, Evelyn; brothers, William, Albert and Charles; nephew, Ronnie Fisher and infant granddaughter, Jennifer Randes.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Doris, two daughters, Deborah Wilmoth and Evelyn Heyde, both of Montgomery, TX and his brother-in-law, Homer L. Thompson of Goldsboro, NC.
Joe was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Washington, for over 23 years after moving from Jessup, MD, where he worshipped at First Ev. Lutheran Church for 34 years in Odenton, MD. Joe felt that his church family was of great importance to him.
Joe worked for 43 years as a packaging engineer and salesman at W.R. Grace in Baltimore, MD. He loved fishing, crabbing, gardening and animals. He was an honorary member of the Bunyan Ruritan Club where he served as secretary for a number of years. He attended meetings until his health began to fail.
We give special thanks to all of the staff on the third floor at Vidant Beaufort Hospital for their tender care of Joe in his last days. We also give more special thanks to Pastor Ben Kifer for his love and concern for our family, Dr. Kenny Nall, Dr. David Lewis, Dr. John Inzerillo, Nicole DaVia, P.A., and Dr. Wilford (at Vidant Beaufort) for all their care for Joe.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Washington, officiated by Rev. Benjamin Kifer.
