 WASHINGTON EVENING ROTARY CLUB

WASHINGTON EVENING ROTARY CLUB

The Washington (evening) Rotary Club met Thursday night at the Washington Yacht and Country Club. President David McLawhorn called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests. After one fitful start, Bartow Houston led in the singing of America. President McLawhorn said a brief blessing for the upcoming meal. Following the meal program chairman Charlie Brown introduced our speaker, Ann Marie Montague, the executive director of Eagle’s Wings. Ms. Montague gave an interesting history of Eagle’s Wings, which started in a church basement. It has now grown into its own building on West Third Street which is owned free and clear. She explained that Eagle’s Wings partners with the Food Bank of the Albemarle to provide food for folks in need who live in Beaufort County. Following her presentation, Club treasurer Bill Wall said that the Club had applied for a Rotary District Grant and was pleased to announce that Eagle’s Wings was being awarded a check for $601. President McLawhorn then presented Ms. Montague with a highly coveted Rotary pen.

Brownie Futrell called Malissa Jarvis to the podium to induct her into the Club. Ms. Jarvis is transferring from the Belhaven Rotary Club where she was twice named Rotarian-of-the-Year.

The meeting concluded with the members saying the Rotary Four Way Test of the things we think, say and do.
