CITY OF WASHINGTON KEEPING THE LEGACY ALIVE: Washington Mayor Mac Hodges proclaimed Aug. 15 to be “Maroon and Gold Day” to honor the reuniting classmates of P.S. Jones High School and its graduating students, many of whom have gone on to be engineers, teachers, attorneys, doctors, nurses and businessmen/women, at a time when society was segregated by law and many obstacles were placed in their paths. The reunion originated with, and was sponsored by, the Jeptha No. 1 Order of Eastern Star to honor parents, teachers, administrators and community leaders responsible for providing strong roots to P.S. Jones’ graduates.
