HOLLY RIDGE — The Southside Seahawks held off a fourth-quarter comeback on the road Friday to knock off Dixon, 22-12.

Senior Lawrence Brown finished with 101 yards on 22 carries, while senior fullback Dylan Lewis notched 61 yards on 11 carries.

The Seahawks combined for 267 yards of total offense, all on the ground, as Dixon managed just 121 yards on 106-yards rushing and two catches for a total of 15 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Southside broke the deadlock with a 4-yard run by Lewis just 15 seconds into the second quarter. With 1:26 left in the half, it was Lewis again who barreled his way through the Dixon D-line for six, a run of 5 yards, giving the Seahawks a 14-0 lead at the break.

“We didn’t block very well tonight,” said head coach Jeff Carrow. “We got up 14-0 but had some stalls when we got to the 20. We have to do a lot better job blocking.”

Following a scoreless third quarter, a botched snap that ended up in the Seahawks’ own end zone was recovered by the Bulldogs’ Gunner Lunsford, narrowing the lead to eight. But Southside would have its answer a couple drives later, set up by a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown by Zikajah Crawford. Matt Baxter punched it in to give Southside a 22-6 lead. Dixon would score with under two-minutes remaining, but it wouldn’t be enough.

“Our defense kept us in the ballgame we just have to work on offense,” Carrow said.

With the win, Southside improves to 2-0 and will travel to Northside next Friday, a matchup of two 2-0 Beaufort County teams.

“Keith (Boyd) is a good coach and he’ll have those guys ready,” Carrow said. “It’s going to be a big time game ether way, doesn’t matter what time of the year. It’ll be a big game.”
