Hilton Carr Wilbur, age 100, a resident of Washington, passed away peacefully at his home on August 31, 2015.   Mr. Wilbur was born in Allentown, N.J. on July 6, 1915 to the late George and Amanda Carr Wilbur.

He was married to the former Helen C. Gill, who predeceased him. He is survived by his daughter, Judith H. Hillery and her husband Richard. Other survivors include his granddaughters: Kimberly J. Vivas of San Francisco, CA and Kristy A. Oakes and husband Matthew of Petaluma, CA and his great-grandsons: Kalen R. Clemmens and Adam K. Oakes, both of Petaluma, CA.

Mr. Wilbur was employed by Tattersall’s Building Material Co. in Trenton, N.J. most of his working life and retired from there at the age of 72. Hilton and Helen moved from their longtime home in Skillman, N.J. to Washington, N.C. in 1987. They wanted to be in better weather and live and be part of the “Bible belt”.

Mr. Wilbur’s leisure time was spent helping others. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church, a founding member of the Caring Christian Carpenters and a very active member of the Gideon’s.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Washington, officiated by Rev. Danny Allen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or The Caring Christian Carpenters/First United Methodist Church in Washington.
