Creating art with a sip of wine

Wine and Design, a nationwide business blending art and spirits, is coming to Washington.
Participants sign up to take an art class, and as an instructor guides them through a project, they are also able to enjoy the beverages they bring to the class.
Paige Horne, who is involved in opening the business in Washington along with Beth Baker, said she wanted to bring Wine and Design to Washington, as the small town has been her home for almost two years, and she was tired of the commute to Greenville when looking for something to do.
She said she thinks this type of entertainment is needed in Washington and will be a good asset to the entertainment already here.
“You bring your bottle of wine, bring the girlfriends and the hubby… you hang out, we teach you step by step how to create a masterpiece,” Horne said.
Now, she’s living the dream with an enviable venue — the new location on Water Street has vintage décor and is decorated to look as if it is the inside of a boat.
“The Chamber of Commerce actually contacted us before we contacted them,” Horne said. “It’s coming together. We love it.”
She said she and Baker are hoping to incorporate more than just painting in the classes, possibly including floral art, do-it-yourself projects and wreath making.
Along with the fun for adults, there are also activities for children as well, including birthday parties. The new business is already introducing new events to the area, such as Art Buzz Kids, On Wheels and Paint It Forward.
Horne said the two are in talks to partner with some area businesses, and she hopes this kind of partnership will continue to grow, bringing more options for activities in the community.
Wine and Design is holding a pre-opening event today for local business owners to build connections, but a grand opening will take place Oct. 9 with discounts offered on some classes. Horne said she hopes to begin holding art classes on Saturday, weather permitting.
The new Wine and Design location is on East Water Street in Washington. For more information or to sign up for a class, visit www.wineanddesign.com/washington.
