John Yarborough

John Exum Yarborough went to sleep and left this world unexpectedly to join the love of his life, the late Patricia Weems Yarborough. A Tar Heel by birth, John grew up in Cary, NC and was a multi-sport athlete and a member of the 1956 Cary High School White Imp football and basketball teams, which both won the state championships that year, an accomplishment which has never been repeated. His sports prowess was acknowledged when he was inducted into the Cary High School Football Hall of Fame in 2010.

He attended Duke University and then took an entrepreneurial turn in the restaurant/bar business when he met and later married Patricia Ann Weems of Raleigh, NC. He finished college at Jacksonville University and became a well-recognized pharmaceutical representative and father. He earned his pharmacy degree at the Medical College of Virginia, and worked in the communities of Colonial Heights, Petersburg, Hopewell, and Chester, Virginia.

John had such a love for his pets, and animals of all kinds — whether it be an animal with fur or feathers, they were his world since the death of his wife, and his daily life revolved around caring for all God’s creatures, as well as his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Arnold and Leslie Lowe, his step-sons Bill and Jon Roberts, his brother Frank Yarborough and nephews Frank Bernard and Frank Flowers, nieces Karen and Frances, and grandchildren Jonathan, Patrick, Tyler, Katherine, Jack, Charlotte, Sydney, Mitchell, Adam, Andrew and Gabriel.

He will be laid to rest beside his late wife at the Warren Chapel Church on Sunday, November 1 at 12:30 pm, officiated by Rev. Philip “Phil” Ryals. Burial will follow in Warren Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Warren Chapel Church, Blounts Creek, NC, or the Wake County SPCA, NC, or the Chesterfield County Animal Shelter, VA.

Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations has been given the honor of serving the Yarborough family.
