Tyrrell schools employees to receive pay increase

Dr. Will Hoffman, superintendent of Tyrrell County Schools, on Nov. 13 announced pay raises and a one-time bonus for all Tyrrell County Schools employees.
As part of the 2015-2016 NC State Budget Bill, a special one-time bonus of $750 is awarded to any person who is employed in a State-funded position on November 1, 2015, Hoffman stated.
However, the Tyrrell County Board of Education has budgeted and approved this bonus for all employees of Tyrrell County Schools, no matter how their position is funded, using the State requirements for computation and distribution, he explained.
The bonus is to be paid in a one time lump sum before Christmas break.
The bonus is not considered compensation and is not subject to retirement withholding. The bonus is awarded to eligible permanent employees without regard to an employee’s placement within the salary range, including employees at the top of the salary range.
The bonus will be adjusted pro rata for permanent part-time employees.
Hoffman also announced that changes to the salary schedules approved in the NC State Budget Bill are retroactive to July 1.
“All school employees will receive a step increase based on experience with adjustments as applicable based on the approved state and local salary schedules,” the superintendent explained. “Any back pay due to employees from July 1 to date will be computed and paid no later than mid-December.”
