Michael Wayne Gibbs Sr.
March 28, 1960 – Nov. 7, 2015 

Michael W. Gibbs was escorted by angels to his eternal home on November 7, 2015.

Michael was born to the late Dennis Gibbs Sr. and Audrie Gibbs on March 28, 1960. He was a 1979 graduate of J. A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Strayer University in 2010. While serving in the military, Michael met and married Terri Carter.

He joined the military in 1979 after graduating from high school. Although there were many obstacles and challenges, he continued to excel in his military career.  Michael completed tours in Germany and Korea. He was also stationed at various military posts throughout the United States. After retiring in 2005, he returned to work as a civilian for various security companies.

Michael was very instrumental in coordinating and organizing the yearly family reunions and his mother’s, Audrie Gibbs, birthday parties. These two events were very important to him.  He really strived to bring his family together in unity and love. Michael was the glue that held the family together.

Michael had one brother and two sisters that preceded him in death: Dennis Gibbs Jr., Daisy Benston and Minnie Gibbs.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Terri Y. Carter, Chief Warrant Office (CW2), (Ret.) of the home; his Mother: Audrie Gibbs; four children: Kyanna Phillips of Natchitoches, La., Michael W. Gibbs Jr. of Savannah, Ga, Danerika LaTrece Holloway of Pascagoula, Ms., and Mizani-Alexis J. Gibbs of Savannah, Ga.; two stepdaughters: Latisha and Latonya Carter of Virginia; four sisters: Lonaway (Samuel) Muldrow of Riverhead, New York, Sheila (Sylvester) Rogers of Chocowinity, Verna (Linwood) Benston of Chocowinity, and Martha (better known as Tootsie of Minnesota); three brothers: Harry (Dalphine) Gibbs, Ronnie (Rosa) and William Gibbs; three grandchildren: Julienne Phillips, Kaileb Phillips, and Camdyn Phillips all of Natchitoches, La.; two  lifelong friends: Gary Burgess and Thomas Selby of Belhaven; three Godchildren: Jolisa Burgess, Tevien Clayton, TeShayla Davis and Antwan Selby; and many other loving nieces, nephews, relative and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Northside High School. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Hillside Funeral Service from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and other times at the 2843 Pungo Creek Road in Pinetown.
