A man in his thirties died at the scene of an accident in Pinetown on Sunday.

The report of a single vehicle accident came into Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center at around 7 p.m., according to officials.

Pinetown Volunteer Fire, Rescue & EMS responded to the scene at Main Street and Rowland Road, where two nurses were already performing CPR on the man, according to authorities.

The vehicle, described as a sedan, hit a ditch culvert and had minimal damage, said Washington Police and Fire Services EMS Director and Pinetown EMS volunteer Doug Bissette.

Bissette said the time between dispatch sending out the call and EMTs delivering the first shock to the victim with an AED (automated external defibrillator) was nine minutes, which is under recommended response time for EMS calls.

There were no other passengers in the car, Bissette said.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident, but the Washington office was closed to calls on Monday.
