Joseph Whitmel (Whit) Blackstone Jr., age 68, a resident of Washington, died Friday, December 4, 2015 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Whit was born in Norfolk, VA on January 1, 1947 to the late Joseph W. and Frances Darling Blackstone.

He is survived by two children, Carl Blackstone and wife Mary Addison of Columbia, SC along with their four children; and Laura Blackstone in God knows where; a sister, Gayle Blackstone of Norfolk, VA and his wife and business partner, Shannon Bowen Blackstone and her two children, Marla Waters and Malissa Waters.

He attended Norview High School in Norfolk, VA, graduated from North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC where he was named an Outstanding Alumni, he also received a master’s degree from East Carolina University; and was a graduate of the Realtors Institute in Chapel Hill. He was the owner of Blackstone Realty Inc. T/A Pamlico Properties and a Realtor in Washington from 1977 until he went to his great reward. He served as a member and President of the Board of the Brown Library; President of the John Cotton Tayloe PTA; member and chairman of the Washington Planning Board; served two terms as president of the NC Wesleyan Alumni Association; a member of the Board of Distinguished Visitors of NC Wesleyan College; a member of the Board of Visitors of Beaufort County Community College; served two terms as President of the Washington Yacht and Country Club; he was a member and past president of the Washington Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, a Benefactor, and member of the Bequest Society. He attended Bath Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and Vice Chairman of the Board.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday, December 7, 2015 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at the Bath Christian Church conducted by Merritt Watson.
