From Northside High School
On Nov. 20, from 7-10 p.m., Northside High School students and community were reminded of how strong an impact volunteerism can have. The NHS Future Business Leaders of America, along with Family Career and Community Leaders of America and the College Preparatory Club, organized the Dance for St. Jude — a fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Volunteers instrumental in creating this wonderful evening included FBLA advisor Mrs. Bunn, Maegan Doss for the decorations and props, G. K. and Pam Pippin who donated DJ services and Holly Alligood, who made the incredible food.
A whole host of other parents, faculty, staff and students provided decorating, chaperoning and cleaning for the event.
Bryce Askew was the guest of honor and his mother Lisa Askew, an English teacher at NHS, gave a moving speech on the difference St. Jude has made in her family’s life. “They saved my son’s life and by giving, they can save more.” Mrs. Askew also emphasized that every penny received goes directly to the families of the children served by St. Jude.
Through ticket sales and club donations, and with a final donation by the FBLA, Northside High School will be able to make a $1,500 donation to St. Jude in Bryce’s honor. One teacher commented, “Our students had fun and have learned a valuable lesson in giving.” Northside High School intends to make the dance an annual event.
