Mrs. Betty Lou Hawkins Blanton, age 80, a resident of 139 River Place, Washington, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016 in Concord, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, officiated by Charles Mike Smith.  Burial will be private. Franklin Buck, Jimmy Page, Ray Hardee, Joe Solomon, Bobby Harris and John Hawkins will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Blanton was born in Beaufort County on November 13, 1935, daughter of the late Jesse Harold Hawkins Sr. and Naomi Alligood Hawkins. She was a graduate of Bath High School and was a member of the girls’ basketball team. In 1955, she married James P. Blanton, who preceded her in death on October 12, 2012. She enjoyed painting, reading, sewing and traveling with her friends. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washington.

She is survived by her daughter: Carlotta Blanton Suggs and husband Doug of Concord; her son: Tony Blanton and wife Debbi of Charlotte; her four grandchildren:  Caroline Suggs, Bryan Suggs and wife Meredith, Hailey Blanton and Ansley Blanton; and her sister: Gail Kimball and husband Jon of Chapel Hill.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters: Hope Lipscomb and Patricia Harris and her brothers: Harold Hawkins Jr., Guy Hawkins and Sidney Hawkins.

The family will receive friends on Saturday at 2:00 PM until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home in Washington and other times at her home.
