Dorothy Jean Miller Barker, age 86, a resident of Washington, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, NC.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Washington and will be officiated by Reverend Danny Allen.

Mrs. Barker was born in Guilford County on October 7, 1929 to the late William Bascom Miller and Arlie Mae Herring. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Washington and especially enjoyed attending Wednesday night dinners, early church service and her Sunday school class. Mrs. Barker also enjoyed being a homemaker, putting together puzzles, reading and spending time with her beloved dog, Jeannie. She was a pilot for many years as well. Before moving to Washington from Florida, she had become an avid golfer. Mrs. Barker was a good cook, a loving mother and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include three children, Janice W. Rich and husband Bob of Washington, Linda W. Pistone and husband Pete of Cornelius, David Wells of Washington, three grandchildren, Paul Hackney and wife Susan, Bryan Rich and wife Ashleigh, Marshall Rich and wife Melissa, six great-grandchildren, Austin Hackney, Lily Hackney, Harrison Hackney, Ella Grey Rich, Annalise Rich, Alaina Rich, a brother Bill Miller of Robbins, and a sister Edyeth Talley of Franklin.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barker is preceded in death by her husband Stonie Barker, a son Keith Wells and a brother Theron Horne.

The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church of Washington from 1:00pm until the funeral hour.
