Mr. Elmer Ray Cannon Sr., 80, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 1:30 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park.                    .

Mr. Cannon, a native of Craven County, was son of the late Judge Hubert and Mattie Estelle Lewis Cannon. He lived most of his life in Pitt County, where had worked with Nichol’s Department Store and at Doodle’s Auto Parts & Service. He was later employed as a mechanic at Fieldcrest Mills, retiring in 1992. After his retirement, he started and operated Cannon’s Lawncare Service. Mr. Cannon loved camping, fishing and visiting the Great Smoky Mountains.

Mr. Cannon was preceded in death by a daughter Dorothy Jean Cannon, sisters, Margie Lewis, Marcelain Stocks and Nettie Lee Carrow, and brothers, Hubert Glenn Cannon and Troy Lee Cannon.

He is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Emma Jean Heath Cannon of the home; sons, Elmer Ray Cannon Jr. and wife, Frances of LaGrange, NC; Michael “Mike” Cannon and wife, Melissa of Winterville, NC; and Kenneth “Kenny” Cannon and wife, Lori of Washington; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
