Mrs. Margaret Irene Jones Mallard, age 71, a resident of 510 Northwood Road, Washington, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 26, 2016, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, Washington, officiated by Rev. Danny Allen and Rev. Beth Hood. The family will receive friends in Wesley Hall following the service.

Mrs. Mallard was born in Jones County on August 20, 1944, daughter of the late Guy Nathan Jones Sr. and Irene Adele Hood Jones. She was a member of the 1962 graduating class of Jones Central High School. On September 14, 1963, she married Lawrence Ray Mallard. Mrs. Mallard retired as Vice President of Bank of America. Upon her retirement from banking, she began working part-time at Paul Funeral Home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Washington and served in many capacities within the church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and held offices locally and in the district. Mrs. Mallard was a member of the Sans Souci Book Club, Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce and Beaufort County Relay for Life. She was a member of Washington Business Career Women and was recognized as Woman of the Year in 1993.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of the home; her daughter, Stephanie Renee Mallard Vandiford and husband Brian of Pendleton, NC, and his two daughters, Bridgette Marie Vandiford and Brittany Elizabeth Vandiford of Conway, NC; her brothers, Guy Nathan Jones Jr. and James Richard Jones, both of Maysville, NC; and her sister, Patricia Ann Jones Eisenhardt and husband, Robert Henry of Hobe Sound, FL.
