Ellis Hardy, age 84, a resident of Hardison Road, Chocowinity, died Saturday, March 5, 2016 at River Trace Nursing & Rehab. Ellis was born August 17, 1931 in Beaufort County to the late Walter Hardy and Amy Ellison Hardy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Ella Keyes Hardy, one son, Eddie James Hardy and one daughter, “Linda” Ellen H. Salisbury. He was also predeceased by one sister, Willie Belle Blount, and two brothers, James Harvey and Henry Hardy. Mr. Hardy was a member of Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Chocowinity, and a truck driver for Volkswagen Automotive. He is survived by his four grandchildren, Kieka, Mahogany, DJ and Evelena, two brothers, John Hardy and Henry Hardy, both of Chocowinity, one sister, Queen Ester Haywood of Chocowinity and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Maple Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Chocowinity, with Reverend Theron Jones officiating. Deacon James Luther Harvey will provide the music. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church and other times at the home of Mr. Hardy’s niece Amy Hardy, 307 E. 13th Street, Washington. A private burial will be held in the church cemetery. Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Hardy family.
