MARVIN SINGLETON

MARVIN SINGLETON

Marvin Edward Singleton, age 87, died on March 10, 2016 surrounded by his family.

From his birth in Washington on October 29, 1928 to his death on Thursday, he influenced people around him with his honesty, dependability and integrity. He was born on a farm in rural Beaufort County to Frank and Ruby (Alligood) Singleton and was the oldest of three children. At an early age Marvin learned the value of hard work and devotion to God. The first in his family to attend college, he graduated in 1950 from the University of South Carolina at Columbia with a degree in business administration. He returned to Washington, where he worked at the Bank of Washington.

In 1953 he married Marie Slot of Terra Ceia, and they moved to Kinston where he worked 31 years as an accountant for Smith Douglass Fertilizer Company and then Kinston Ob-Gyn Associates for another 12 years. Until his early 80s he served as the accountant and tax preparer for many small businesses and members of the community.

Marvin loved his family and is survived by his wife, Marie Slot and his sister, Nancy Singleton Douglas; three daughters and their spouses, Elaine and Bill Scott, Lois and Johnnie Sutton, and Beth and Alex Maness; six grandchildren, Sara Scott Shields and husband Tim, Elizabeth Sutton Sharpe and husband Rick, Andrew Sutton, Anna Scott Pulliam and husband Joseph, Josh Maness and wife Maci, and Nicholas Maness; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William (Billy) Singleton.

Family, friends and others whose lives Marvin touched are invited to a family visitation at Faith Fellowship Church, 2278 Paul’s Path Road, Kinston, NC from 5 pm-8 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 3 pm. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Kinston.
