May 25, 1934  – March 24, 2016

Ms. Alice C. McRoy, age 81, a resident of The Williamston House and formerly of 209 Ridgewood Lane, Washington, NC  passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 .  Born in Vanceboro, NC on May 25, 1934, Ms. McRoy attended Craven County Schools. She was a retired nursing assistant with Britthaven Nursing Home and was active with the Blind Center of Beaufort County. On October 2, 1954 she married Billy McRoy. Later on July 18, 1957 she gave birth to twins.  Ms. McRoy was predeceased by her husband, Billy McRoy, one daughter, Baby McRoy, son – in – law Noah Purifoy, one brother and six sisters. Survivors include one son Billy Ray McRoy and wife Dawn of Washington, NC, one daughter, Alice McRoy Purifoy of Shallotte, NC, two grandchildren, Macon Paul Harris and Mark Anthony Harris, one great-grandchild, Brandon Lee Harris.

Alice enjoyed playing the piano and bingo. The love she had and showed for her family was first and foremost. Second to that was her love for music. Often times she would have a ringside seat at the “practice building” listening to her son playing the guitar. While residing at the Williamston House, she forged many friendships not only with the residents but the staff as well. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at the Williamston House as well as  Martin General Hospital. A graveside celebration of her life will be held today at 4:00 pm in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington, NC. with Tony Congleton officiating. Pallbearers include Billy McRoy, Macon Harris, Geof McDowell, Billy Johnson, Dana Hebden, and Dana “Buddy” Hebden. A visitation will be held today from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm at the home, 209 Ridgewood Lane, Washington, NC.
