Mrs. Hazel Ballance Carawan, 99, of Swan Quarter, died Monday April 11, 2016 at her residence.
Born in Hyde County, November 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Katie Baum Ballance. She was first married to George Ben Williams Sr. and later to John Leland Carawan Jr., who both preceded her in death.
She was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church where she played the piano for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, was an avid collector and she enjoyed watching the cardinals outside her window.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Calvary Presbyterian Church. Reverend Spotswood Graves will officiate. A private burial will follow in the family plot at the Carawan/Williams Family Cemetery.
Surviving is a son, George Ben Williams Jr. and wife Carol of Swan Quarter; a daughter, Rosemary Williams of Swan Quarter; two grandchildren, Denise Williams and husband Raymond of Fairfield, Karen Dunbar and husband Todd of Scranton; three great-grandchildren, Kayla Dunbar, Katie Dunbar and Marcus Williams; two great-great-grandchildren, Ryder Selby and Kora Mizelle.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Lee Ballance and Ronald B. Ballance; and one sister, Emogene Ballance Marshall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Building Fund, c/o Jennifer Cahoon, PO Box 543, Engelhard, NC 27824.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, one hour prior to the service at Calvary Presbyterian Church.
