Mrs. Hannah Marie Woolard Alligood, age 88, a resident of Washington, journey has ended after her extended illness with Alzheimer’s at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens officiated by Mike Caton.
The family will receive friends at the home of Raybon “Ray” and Tammy Harris (daughter) of Hannah Alligood, located at 2704 Lizzard Slip Road, Washington.
Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on Feb. 12, 1928, daughter of the late James Albert Woolard and the late Lucy Frances Alligood Woolard.
On Dec. 23, 1950, she married John Richard Alligood who preceded her in death on May 19, 1989. Her caring spirit extended beyond her family as she assisted many sick and elderly while working as a nurse’s assistant and caregiver. She was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters: Susie Alligood Godley and her husband Gene of Grimesland, Patricia “Pat” Alligood Rowe and her husband Linwood of Blounts Creek and Tammy Alligood Harris and her husband Raybon “Ray” of Washington; two sisters: Truemella W. Woolard and Betty Lou Sutton both of Washington; a brother: Billy Ray Woolard of Washington; six grandchildren: William Christopher “Chris” Cherry and his wife Brenda, Tracey Cherry, Mac Lee Godley and his wife Marie, Richard Gene Godley and his wife Roseanne, Raybon Harris III and Casey S. Harris; a step-grandson: Lenny Rowe and his wife Lillian; a step granddaughter-in-law: Shelia Rowe; three great grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Alligood was predeceased by three sisters: Maybell Squires, Mary Helen McRoy and Minnie W. Spain; three brothers: Arvie Woolard, John B. Woolard and William Thomas Woolard and a step grandson: Greg Rowe.
The family would like to thank Betty Caraway, Mrs. Alligood’s longtime caregiver, Dr. David Lewis, the staff of Ridgewood Manor Nursing Center and Asera Care Hospice for their compassionate care.
