Refueling dock reopens at WYCC

This weekend, boaters can once again stop to refuel at the Washington Yacht & Country Club.
The refueling station at the club’s Broad Creek dock has been closed for more than six months because the fuel lines needed replacement.
“The gas lines were aged and needed to be replaced,” said club President Daniel Bergevin. “It’s been a process to get several quotes for companies and to get on their schedules.”
Bergevin said the club chose a company out of Raleigh to install the new lines, which are supposed to hold up better in brackish water.
The refueling station will now offer ethanol-free gas and diesel every day of the week: Mondays and Tuesdays, by appointment; Wednesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Fridays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Members and non-members can stop at the dock, but there is a discounted price for members refueling.
Fuel prices will be based off of the market as with any fuel, but because of it being ethanol free, boaters should expect to see a higher price as compared to filling up a car, according to Bergevin.
He said it will be positive to have the dock open again from an economic standpoint because of the benefits of boating access for larger vessels, coupled with the proximity to downtown Washington, which can help increase business in the area.
“It’s always good to have access for boats to get fuel on the river,” he said. “We’re one of very few that offers gas and diesel that larger boats can get access to.”
Despite the WYCC’s financial strain in the past several months, Bergevin said those problems have been resolved, and the only effect it had on gas line replacement was making the board wait until the problems were resolved before making any decisions about the dock.
