From the Pamlico Writers Group

The Pamlico Writers Groups is pleased to announce its special guest speaker at the next luncheon meeting.

David E. Poston comes to us from Gastonia, where he edits a poetry column for the public library newsletter and teaches occasional creative-writing workshops.

He will be bringing in and sharing excerpts from his own writings as well as various writers and texts who have inspired him — from Seamus Heaney to Zora Neal Hurston to the Bible.

David taught for 30 years in various public schools, at the University of North Carolina–Charlotte, and at Charlotte’s Young Writers’ Workshop.

His work has appeared in various journals, including Asheville Poetry Review, English Journal, Iodine Poetry Journal, Main Street Rag, Nerve Cowboy, The Rain, Party, & Disaster Society, and Wild Goose Poetry Review, and has won awards from the Charlotte Writers’ Club, North Carolina Writers’ Network and Writers’ Workshop of Asheville. His work has also appeared in a number of anthologies, including “Earth and Soul: An Anthology of North Carolina Poetry” and “The Cento: A Collection of Collage Poems.” His previous poetry collections are “My Father Reading Greek” and “Postmodern Bourgeois Poetaster Blues,” which won the North Carolina Writers’ Network’s Randall Jarrell/Harperprints Poetry Competition in 2007.

To say accomplished is an understatement when speaking of David E. Poston. This luncheon speaker promises to be very interesting — one won’t want to miss it.

Come and join us at 11:45 a.m. on June 21 at the China Bay Buffet Restaurant in Chocowinity. Our free luncheon meetings are open to the public.

Attendees should go through the normal buffet line and assemble in the private meeting room. Please be sure and leave a tip for one’s server so that we may reduce our facility costs. Our public luncheon meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month except the following months: January, March, July, November and December.

Pamlico Writers Group is affiliated with Arts of the Pamlico and meets as small critique groups on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at the Turnage Theatre. Novice and published authors are encouraged and invited to join our groups. Pamlico Writers Group and Arts of the Pamlico co-sponsor the annual Pamlico Writers Conference and Competition. The 2017 conference information is not available at this time. Look for this and other events on our website at www.pamlicowritersgroup.org, where you may also join our group.

China Bay Buffet Restaurant is located at 2871 U.S. Highway 17 South, Chocowinity.
