The Down East Seniors Club held its July 6 meeting at the Blind Center of North Carolina in Washington. President Ed Hamrick led the meeting. Jim Hackney played for the singing of “God Bless America” and Ed Bolen gave the invocation. Dick Paul provided humor.

Ed Bolen presented Lieutenant Kelly Cox with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Cox stated that BCSO’s organization includes the sheriff, chief deputy, captain, four lieutenants, first sergeants, sergeants and patrolmen. Everyone except the sheriff is a deputy; there are a total of 68 deputies. The functional groups are patrol, criminal investigative, jail, narcotics and school resource officers. BCSO now provides resource officers for all schools in the county. BCSO is making an effort to patrol neighborhoods in the county more frequently, especially during the summer when many people are gone on vacation. If a county resident is going on an extended absence, he can send an email to BeaufortCountySO.org and patrols will pay special attention to his residence.

Charles Lueck won the 50/50 drawing.
