Charles “Chief” Leonard Foster, age 68, a resident of Belhaven, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven and will be officiated by Pastor Medford Hopkins. Burial will follow in Ryder Hill Cemetery in the Pamlico Beach Community. Josh Hopkins, Jody Hopkins, Stevie Foster, Dwight Foster, Freddie Lee Hopkins and Curtis Wayne Hopkins will serve as pallbearers. Bill Slade, Chuck Williams, Eduardo Ramirez, Misael Resendiz, James Latham, Steven Brinn, Rick Nittoli and Bob Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Foster was born in Beaufort County on January 31, 1948 to the late Abvner Benjamin Foster and Mavis Dale Worthington Foster. On February 15, 1968 he married Brenda Gay Manning.

Mr. Foster worked as an auto tech teacher at John A. Wilkinson from 1984 until 1990 and at Northside High School until his retirement in 2012. After retiring, he went to work as a mechanic for Slade Landscaping and was a commercial fisherman. Mr. Foster was one of the founding members of the Pamlico Beach Fire and Rescue where he served as chief. He also served as chief on the Sydney Rescue Squad. Mr. Foster coached Little League, was a club leader with VICA, a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife Brenda M. Foster of the home; a son, Chuck Foster Jr. and wife June of Pinetown; a daughter, Joanna Slade and husband Eric of Bath; three grandchildren, Savannah Slade, Kathleen Slade and Jessica Foster; two brothers, Dwight Foster and his wife Grace of Ayden, Stevie Foster and his wife Kim of Grimesland; two sisters, Betty Lou Smith and husband Bob of Greenville, Abbie Hopkins and husband Freddie Lee of Pamlico Beach; several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Scooter.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home of Belhaven.
