Mrs. Annie Irene Waters Alligood Hawkins, age 98, a resident of Broad Creek Road, Washington, died August 30, 2016 at Ridgewood Manor in Washington.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, September 2, 2016 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Tony Krantz. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

Mrs. Hawkins’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Beaufort County on March 14, 1918. She was the daughter of the late David Edward Waters and Annie Belle Waters. Mrs. Hawkins was a homemaker and a very active member of Beaver Dam Church of Christ. In her spare time, she loved gardening, cooking for her family and visiting the sick.

Mrs. Hawkins was married to Alton G. Alligood, who preceded her in death. Later, she married Harold Hawkins, who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hawkins is survived by her son, Dalton Alligood Sr. and wife, Barbara of Washington; six grandchildren, Carol Saleeby, Dawn Watkins, Sherrie Rogerson, D.R. Alligood, Cindy Rodriguez and Chris Alligood; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also left behind are many loving nieces and nephews who considered her the matriarch of the “Waters” clan.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Mrs. Hawkins was preceded in death by a son, Joseph David Alligood; two brothers, Vernon Hampton Waters and Thomas Richard Waters; four sisters, Hilda Sullivan, Blanche Tetterton, Gladys Drewy and Thelma Ambrose and a granddaughter, Vicki Belhof.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaver Dam Church of Christ, 5125 Hwy. 264 East, Washington, N.C. 27889.
