THIS TRACTOR-TRAILER RIG, loaded with corn, failed to negotiate a 135-degree turn from N.C. Highway 94 into Elementary School Road in Columbia about 7:45 a.m. on Aug. 31. Some of the corn was removed from the trailer, and a large crane placed the trailer back onto the road. Sheriff's deputies and firefighters rerouted N.C. Highway 94 southbound traffic via U.S. Highway 64 West and Travis, Chapel Hill, Cross Landing, Bodwell and Levels roads, an extra 17 miles. The intersection was reopened at about 11 a.m. (contributed photo)
