Mrs. Janie Cayton Gaskins, 82, of Black Jack, died Thursday, October 27, 2016.

The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 pm in the Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday prior to the service from 1 to 2:30 pm at the church.

Private interment will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Gaskins, a native of Pitt County, was a longtime resident of the Black Jack community. A graduate of Chicod High School, she had been employed with James, Hite, Cavendish and Blount Law Office. Later along with her husband, she opened Gaskins Marina in Washington. In 2010, she retired from Wahl-Coates Elementary School as a secretary.

She was a member of Black Jack Free Will Baptist Church and the Christian Crusaders Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the Golden Group. She was also a member of a breakfast club that met every Friday morning.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Gaskins.

She is survived by her: daughters, Kathy G. Riggs and husband, Jeff and Cindy G. Boyd and husband, J.M., all of Black Jack; grandchildren, Kevin Riggs, Suzanne Riggs, Jenna Stahl and husband, Josh, Alex Boyd and girlfriend, Morgan Taylor, and Jay Boyd and wife, Ashley; and great-granddaughter, Georgia Boyd.

At other times, the family will receive guests at the residence of Jeff and Kathy Riggs.
