The Washington (noon) Rotary Club met Monday at King Chicken in Washington. Following last weekend’s Smoke on the Water, the reports of the annual fundraising event were that it was very successful for all involved. The featured speaker was Michael Swinson, the new principal at Washington High School. New to Washington, Swinson is from Pink Hill and was formerly the principal in Ayden Grifton High School. He spoke about his efforts to focus on growth in the key areas as measured by the state. His approach started first with an evaluation of the teachers, who he said were great teachers. He mentioned that his next goal would be to establish better communication between himself and the teachers and better communication between the teachers and the less-engaged students in the classrooms. He also is trying to foster better communication with the school and the community and invited the public to stop by and discuss their ideas with him. After a lively question and answer period, the meeting was adjourned with the Four Way Test.
