Mrs. Jill Barnhill High, age 73, a resident of 201 Rowan Place, Washington, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Ken Hall.

Interment will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Oak City Cemetery in Oak City.

Mrs. High was born in Greenville, N.C. on June 7, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Larry Jarrett Barnhill and Evelyn Roberson Barnhill. Mrs. High received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from East Carolina University. She was a retired school teacher with 27 years of service. Mrs. High was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Kaye Buckman Circle. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.).

On October 26, 1963, she married William Hackney High, who survives.

Surviving with her husband are two sons, William Hackney “Hack” High Jr. and wife, Martha Harless High and their two children, Molly Castleton and William Hackney High III, all of Edenton, John Barnhill High and wife, Sarah Whitt High and their children, John Barnhill “Jack” High, Alexander Thomas High and Rachel Frances High, all of Durham; sister, Deborah Barnhill Mewborn and husband, Roger of Snow Hill; and brother, Larry Jarrett Barnhill Jr. and wife, Robin of Hillsborough.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, October 31, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation in honor of Jill Barnhill High, c/o NCCF Northeast Office, 204 S. Poindexter Street, Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909. Memorials may be used for a scholarship for a deserving Washington High School student.
