Mildred Styons Edwards, 92, formerly of Roper, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, in Chowan River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Edenton.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Martin County on May 1, 1924, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Christopher Styons and Bessie Hardison Styons. A retired insurance agent, she had worked with both Charlotte Liberty Mutual Insurance, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC. A faithful member of Saints Delight Church of Christ, she had served in the choir, as the teacher of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class, and with the Ladies Aid Group. In years past, while her children were in school, she was an active member of the Roper Elementary and Plymouth High School PTA’s.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, G.C. Edwards, Jr., and by a sister-in-law, Grace Styons.

Surviving are two daughters, Betty Jean Hardison and husband Eddie of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Rose Edwards Hall and husband Frank of Carrollton, VA; two sons, Cleve Edwards and wife Corrie of Creswell, and Johnny Edwards and wife Marguerite of Brandon, FL; four brothers, Cecil Styons of Grandy, Melvin Styons and wife Dorothy of Hertford, Homer Styons and wife Peggy of Elizabeth City, and Wade Styons and wife Brenda of Roper; 10 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Saints Delight Church of Christ and will be officiated by Minister Arnold Pressey and family friend Chris Grimes. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the church and other times at Cleve and Corrie’s home, 12256 N.C. Hwy 94 North, Creswell.
