Nellie K. Dixon

Ms. Nellie K. Webster Dixon, age 91, a resident of Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, NC, and a former resident of Vanceboro, died Monday, November 14, 2016 at Autumn Field Assisted Living of Belhaven. Nellie was born in Beaufort County February 13, 1925 to the late Hilton and Susie Windley Keech. On April 21, 1941 she married Nathaniel Webster, who predeceased her on November 17, 1975, and later married Bill Dixon on June 4, 1978, who predeceased her on January 4, 2011. In addition to her parents and two husbands, Nellie was predeceased by one sister Mildred Andreoli, two brothers Delma Keech and Elmer Keech, one son-in-law, William Waters Sr. and one stepson, Melvin J. Dixon. Nellie worked as a supervisor for Samsons Manufacturing, formerly of Washington, for 25 years. After her marriage to Bill, she became lovingly involved in the family business, Dixon Service & Clothing of Vanceboro, NC, where she served as co-owner and manager. Nellie was very proud of the clothing line that she introduced to his small country store and she became a very loved member of the Wilmar & Vanceboro community and the Dixon family. Nellie was a past member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church of Vanceboro, NC, and was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church.

In her spare time she enjoyed gardening and canning. Nellie is survived by two daughters, Carol Waters and Sandy Tankard (Midge), one son Tommy Webster (Jannie), and one brother, Linwood Keech. Also surviving are four stepdaughters, Joyce Toler (Lewis), Marietta Mills, Brenda Hayes (Albert) and Janice Dixon. Surviving grandchildren: William Waters Jr., Anthony Waters (Beverly), Patti Waters, Allen Waters, Stephanie Jones (Greg), Sam Webster (Janet), Penny Modlin (Mike), Billy Tankard and step-grandchildren: Joy Conner (Stan), Earl Toler (Kim), Anthony Fulcher (Tammy), Greg Fulcher (Stacey), Rhonda Whealton (Tim), Kenneth Hardy (Michelle), Angie Manning, Allen Dixon, and Michelle Toler, 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, Pinetown, with Tony Parrish officiating. Burial will follow in the Webster Family Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Anthony Waters, Allen Waters, Sam Webster, Billy Tankard, Anthony Fulcher and Buddy Worrell. The family received friends Tuesday, November 15, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations. The family will receive friends at other times at the home of her daughter, Carol Waters, 6786 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown.
